The haunted history of Hotel Alex Johnson has many guests coming from near and far to visit. Room 812 is known for its story about a bride who was either flung from her window, or jumped, on her wedding night. Guests have reported hearing a woman crying, being bitten on the arm, or seeing someone in a white dress come into the room. There has also been reports of a little girl running up and down the hall ways, knocking on doors. Employees has also reported having chairs thrown at them. Guests on the 9th floor have asked the manager if the people above them could stop their partying. Unfortunately, there are no guest rooms on teh 9th floor. Alex Johnson, the original owner, has also been known to visit the hotel now and then. His pictures are up in various places of the hotel and guests have reported seeing him.
For the majority, the ghosts and encounters are harmless. Many guests will request to stay in room 812 or 804 to see if they will experience anything.

Paranormal investigators from SyFy’s Ghost Hunters paid a visit to the historic downtown Rapid City Hotel Alex Johnson in November 2010. After many stories from employees, guests, and a few of his own experiences, Rich Dunkelberger decided to invite Ghost Hunters to evaluate the hotel. Rich Dunkelberger was the former chief executive officer of hotel management company ISIS Hospitality.
Despite not being able to gather hard evidence of aggressive paranormal activity, there was enough there for Ghost Hunters to say that the hotel could very well be haunted. Should people be afraid? Not at all. Whatever is here is harmless.
There are many stories about local haunts. Hotel Alex Johnson is another great place. Come on over and check out the stories that guests have shared over the years. Maybe you would like to stay in one of the haunted rooms. Who knows? Maybe you will experience something yourself…
