The Hotel Alex Johnson Joins Historic Hotels of America®

RAPID CITY, SOUTH DAKOTA - The Hotel Alex Johnson in Rapid City is pleased to announce it has joined Historic Hotels of America®, a program of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and brand of Preferred Hotel Group.

The Alex Johnson is one of more than 230 hotels and resorts throughout the country that is recognized by Historic Hotels of America for preserving and maintaining its historic integrity, architecture and ambiance.

"The trend of cultural travel in America continues to grow," said Thierry Roch, executive director of Historic Hotels of America®. "By inviting The Hotel Alex Johnson into our collection of distinguished properties, we are continuing to encourage historic preservation while at the same time showcasing this hotel's rich history. Our goal is to bring these historically special hotels and their authentic experiences to the attention of the traveling public."

To be selected for membership in National Trust Historic Hotels, a hotel must be at least 50 years old, listed in or eligible for the National Register of Historic Places or recognized locally as having historic significance.

It will introduce The Alex Johnson to an entirely new group of discerning travelers who appreciate history, " stated Caleb Arceneaux, Chief Executive Officer of ISIS Hospitality.

The Hotel Alex Johnson is rich in history and architectural integrity. The hotel, which was built in 1928 and is the landmark of Rapid City has hosted guests from varying walks of life over many decades. Six U.S. Presidents have resided there over the years and the hotel is featured in the Alfred Hitchcock film "North by Northwest." The hotel recently underwent a multi-million dollar renovation, including the opening of a new rooftop Art Deco style bar called Vertex.
